Sarai is an ancient Persian term for an inn and Toria is a nearby village hence the Sarai at Toria. This uniquely designed accommodation is situated on a beautiful riverside site, close to Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh. It can be a destination in itself, as the surrounding area is full of wonderful history and natural beauty.
Enjoy the countryside living experience by vacationing at Sarai at Toria as it is soaked in wilderness with Panna wildlife reserve just two km away from the retreat. The traditional methods were used for the constructing of cottages, by using minimal steel and concrete and the generous use of mud, stone, bricks, tiles and bamboo as it is clearly visible in the exterior façade.
The Sarai at Toria comprises of 8 independent cottage rooms, each having attached bathrooms, verandas and private courtyards. Four of the cottages are especially suitable for families and have a mezzanine where children can go up to and sleep. The spacious cottages, fabricated in mud, with thatched roofs, are designed by an Indian architect known for his nature friendly designs.
The combination of traditional methods and modern architectural design are used to insulate the rooms from the extremes of the outside climate. But the rustic mud exteriors hide elegant and contemporary interiors.
A large dining and lounge area is situated on the highest point of the land commanding magnificent views over the Ken River and towards the plateau of the Panna Tiger Reserve. Within the nine acres the Sarai is set in, there is so much to explore and places under immense trees to relax while outdoor dining choices include - breakfast out in the sun, lunch by the spreading ficus tree and diner by candle light under a star-lit sky.
