Saman Villas, Bentota [Sri Lanka]

 

Perched on a private headland overlooking the Laccadive Sea, Saman Villas an all-suite tropical resort is set 2 km away from the Sabaidee Beach whereas 4 km away from the Ventura Beach. Saman Villas is just 150 minutes by car via expressway or 45 minutes by helicopter from the International airport and 90 minutes from Colombo via expressway.


Accommodation

The hotel has 26 suites and one duplex villa. The alfresco bathrooms have been created as cocoons of comfort complete with cozy baths and handpicked toiletries. Each suite is furnished with a 48″ LED TV, Blu Ray DVD player with Yamaha home theater system, iPod/ iPhone docking station, Mini bar, Safe, Hair dryer and Complimentary Wi-Fi.

The suites can be categorised as:

Superior suites: Located on either side of the rock promontory, the superior suites have ocean views. The suites have sleeping deck with king sized bed, a balcony with divan and private dining facility, lounge area, a dressing room, an open-air bathroom with over-sized terrazzo bath and an outdoor rain shower set in a water feature.

Deluxe suites: Located on the ground floor, the deluxe suites are surrounded by Frangipani trees and seaside flora and offer ocean views. The suites have sleeping deck with king sized bed opening out to a pocket garden, a verandah with divan and private dining facility, lounge area, a dressing room, an open-air bathroom with over-sized terrazzo bath and an outdoor rain shower set in a water feature.

Deluxe suites with swimming pool: Located on the ground floor, the deluxe suites with pool have sleeping deck with a choice of a king sized or twin beds, a verandah with divan and private dining facility, lounge area, a dressing room, an open-air bathroom with over-sized terrazzo bath and an outdoor rain shower set in a water feature. The additional feature of the suites are a private garden with sun beds and a 7 meter infinity-edge lap pool overlooking the Indian Ocean.

Grand deluxe suite with swimming pool: The Grand Deluxe suite is an opulent villa tucked away furthest to the south with romantic views of the ocean. The suite comes with a sleeping deck with a king sized bed, a verandah with divan and private dining facility, lounge area, a dressing room, an open-air bathroom with over-sized bath set in water feature, an indoor rain shower. The additional feature of the suites is a private garden with sun beds and a 7 meter secluded lap pool overlooking the Indian ocean with sun deck and dining area for private use.

Saman Villa suite with swimming pool: The Saman Villas suite is a luxurious suite spread on two levels. The ground floor consists of a living area opening out to a large verandah with divan and dining facility and a private garden with sunbeds. The upper floor contains a plush bedroom quarter and a completely secluded private pool offering ultimate privacy set within an exclusive bathhouse area.


Dining

The hotel offers a series of intimate dining options to bring diversity to the guests dining experience. Borrowing from Eastern temple architecture, the Saman Villas dining pavilions peers out to some of the best views from the property. The ethnic architectural style also extends to the Fine Dine Restaurant that is open for main meals. The hotel staff enquires about dietary needs of the guest to ensure a seamless dining experience during the stay. The extensive a la carte menu at Saman Villas includes signature international dishes and the catch of the day. The inspired cuisine is paired with a fine selection of wine from around the world. Guest can take a short stroll over to the Pool Bar where friendly bartenders will concoct the island’s specialty beverages. Also the Sunset Bar can be arranged for special occasions.

  • Cycle Track: A scenic cycle tour across picturesque paddy fields passing through old temples, Dutch architectural houses and the beautiful Dedduwa lake. Ideal trip for nature lovers to experience the scenic beauty of village life.
  • Walking Trail: A scenic walking tour across picturesque paddy fields, local villages, dutch houses and temples. The site offers panoramic views and it is an ideal visit during the evening hours to see the sunset. Towards the end of the journey one will pass by beautiful marshy lands with variety of birds.
  • Brief Garden: A visit to brief garden, a garden developed over a period of fifteen years by Bevis Bawa, a well known Sri Lankan artist. The garden is aesthetically laid out on five acres of land and is noted for its lush vegetation.
  • Kande Viharaya: A visit to the Kande Viharaya temple dating back to 1734 A. D.
  • Dutch Fort: Trip to the coastal town of Galle, to explore traditional Dutch buildings, the light house, the first maritime museum of Sri Lanka, Dutch church built in 1752 and the Galle Dutch Fort.
  • Beruwala Fish Market: A visit to the nearby fish market in the morning to experience how the nights’ catch is auctioned off to retail sellers.
  • Kanneliya: Excursion to Kanneliya, a forest complex located in southern Sri Lanka, designated as an important biosphere reserve in 2004 by UNESCO.
  • Lunuganga estate: A visit to Lunuganga estate, the beautifully landscaped country home of the famed Sri Lankan architect, Geoffrey Bawa.
  • Sinharaja forest reserve: Excursion to the Sinharaja forest reserve, a national park and a biodiversity hotspot, designated a biosphere reserve and world heritage site by the UNESCO organization.
  • Turtle Conservation Project: Visit Kasgoda and watch turtles in their natural habitat. One may even get to see turtles laying eggs in the evening hours. Located only twenty minutes away from Saman Villas, a day’s notice is required for a visit.
  • Whale and Dolphin watching – (November through April only): Whale and Dolphin watching tours are organised from the Marissa harbour.
  • Deep Sea fishing/River cruising and Diving: Deep sea fishing or river cruising are available in Bentota with prior appointment and diving is available in Bentota and Aluthgama
  • Maduganga River Safari: Cruise through the mangroves and a host of little islands along a river resplendent with natural beauty. Boat rides and lagoon fishing can be easily arranged. The Maduganga wetland is considered to be one of the last remaining tracts of pristine mangrove forests in Sri Lanka.
