Elephant stables is a heritage boutique hotel sitting atop a hill in Kandy. Located on a private road a mere 10 minutes from the historic city centre of Kandy, this beautiful colonial period bungalow is a haven of serenity. The old colonial bungalow belonging to an old aristocratic family has been restored to a beautiful hotel with a combination of original mid-century planter's furniture and stylish interiors.

The hotel features a collection of 7 rooms and suites that uniquely combine colonial flavour and ambience with chic designer elements. The bedrooms at the hotel feature some of the best interior design in Sri Lanka.The main house has the original Colonial Wing and a New Wing. Suites and rooms are well furnished with colonial period four-poster beds, wardrobe and lounge chairs. In-room facilities include a 42 inch TV with satellite channels, Blue Ray DVD player, Film library, and iPad and iPhone docking station, wifi internet, tea/coffee facility, electronic safe, bathrobe and slippers, and ensuite bathrooms with h/w showers.
The rooms at the Elephant stables are :
Vanilla Suite : Set in the Colonial Wing, the Vanilla Suite consists of a double room and an inter-connecting second, smaller room with bunk beds.
Citronella Suite : Also a part of the Colonial Wing, this is a spacious suite on the upper floor with mountain view.
Saffron Deluxe Room : A smaller suite set in the Colonial Wing with mountain views.
Pepper Deluxe Garden Room : Set in the New Wing, this room comes with a private balcony with a wrap around verandah and garden views.
Lemongrass Deluxe Garden Room : Set in the New Wing, this room comes with a private balcony with mountain views.
Cottage Suite : Set in the gardens closer to the swimming pool, this suite consists of a separate bedroom and a living room which is also furnished with two single beds.
Luxury Tent : The fully air conditioned tent is partitioned with curtains that separate the huge living and dining areas from the Master Bedroom.
Elephant Stables has a multicuisine restaurant named the Green Dining Room which serves local Sri Lankan, Thai and Continental cuisines.
Other dining venues include the New Wing Bar Area and the New Wing Verandah, Out Door dining in the garden and in room dining is also available. The food at the hotel is the highlight and features Sri Lankan favourites but also offer Asian and Western specialities.
The hotel also has a Bar that serves a variety of cocktails and mocktails.
Being a small boutique hotel, the in house recreational facilities at the Elephant Stables is limited. There’s a super pool in the garden, with a sundeck and views over Kandy, and beautiful gardens with mango trees for spending a day at leisure. The library at the hotel has a good collection of classics and books outlining the island's wildlife, history and architecture.
The hotel used to keep many elephants, and can arrange encounters with these friendly animals for interested guests.
The hotel has a great collection of vintage and classic cars that are available for use by hotel guests. Sightseeing tours of Kandy are easily arranged in one of the vehicles.
