Coco Tangalla, Tangalle [Sri Lanka]

 

Coco Tangalla is a stylish black and white beach side villa which is located along the Southern coast of Sri Lanka in the beautiful town of Tangalle. It overlooks the Indian Ocean and is ideally placed to explore the south coast or rest in style.


Accommodation

The villa has six air-conditioned bedrooms. All rooms have different design and colors and offer a feeling of staying at home. Hanging wardrobes, bedside tables and lights, chairs and luggage space are standard features of all rooms. Rooms are decorated with bright colored silks and Sri Lankan fabrics as well as artwork and stylish furnishings.

In the main house are four bedrooms - Kundira, Palmyrah, Kurumba and Thambili - combining oriental and bright colours in silks and local fabrics, artwork and stylish furnishings.

  • Kundira, Kurumba and Thambili: These are standard double rooms and offer private ensuite bathrooms with shower, basin, and WC.
  • Palmyrah: This room has Twin Beds and offers private ensuite bathrooms with shower, basin, and WC.

Adjacent to the main house are two more bedrooms: King Coco and Africa. These can interconnect by a short passageway, making them an ideal combination for a family.

  • King Coco: The larger bedroom, King Coco, has its own private verandah overlooking the sea, with a large bench seat covered in cushions and ideal for lounging during the day, with a table and chairs for private dining. There is a large ensuite bathroom with rain-shower, as well as a double-basin and WC.
  • Arica: Africa has Twin Beds, connecting into a large partly outdoor bathroom with shower, as well as a double- basin, and WC.

Dining

Meals are served in the open sided garden pavilion overlooking the sea. The menu includes a variety of western and asian styles and flavours and is prepared by the chef using fresh seafood purchased daily from the local fisherman and vegetables from the local market.

Breakfast includes fruit juices, eggs, pancakes, cereals and some Sri Lankan favourites.

Lunches are typically two courses from a selection of soups, pasta, vegetarian dishes, or all varieties of seafood and other salads, followed by a delicious dessert.

Dinner is three-course fare, which might include crab, mullet, searfish, lobster or tuna all cooked by interesting fusion recipes, or a variety of beef, chicken and vegetable curries, and some house favourites for dessert.


Experiences

At the Villa: The villa has an infinity edge swimming pool located just a few steps below the main house overlooking the Indian Ocean. There is a small Library of books and some CD’s, and a dock for an i-pod. Part of the ambalama is dedicated as a place to lounge and gaze at the Indian Ocean. There is no spa at the villa but they can organise visits by specialists in Ayurvedic, Thai or Indian massage plus a variety of other wellness techniques. Guest can also enjoy a selection of boardgames available in the house. The adjacent small beach is not swimmable, but it is possible on one beach within walking distance.

Excursions: Below stated excurions are possible for the guest staying at Coco Tangalla:

  • Wildlife: Guest can visit Yala National Park for leopard safari, Udawalawe Reserve for large herds of elephants, Turtle Conservation Area at Rekawa by night to see turtles arrive to lay their eggs or the Bandula Bird Sanctuary.
  • Whale and Dolphin Watching: Guest can choose to go on a Whale and Dolphin watching tour.
  • Mulkirigala Caves: Guest can take a short trip to the Mulkirigala Caves to see the remarkable temple and monastery carved out of a large and sheer rock formation in the surrounding forest.
  • Dutch Fort: Guest can visit the Dutch Fort at Matara.
  • Bawa’s architecture: For those keen on seeing the work of famous Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa, a visit to Ruhuna University and Claughton House can be organised.
